Structure was founded in 2008, by Peter Jackson Hussey, and has since evolved over time into a small design studio that offers, general contracting, architectural building design for new construction, and design and fabrication for custom cabinetry, kitchens, millwork, and furniture in our woodshop.

As Certified Passive House Builders (CPHB) with the Passive House Institute US (Phius), we strive for low carbon, sustainable healthy solutions when working with our clients.

We prioritize working with natural, bio-based materials as much as possible. This includes locally sourced timber for framing and millwork, wood fiber insulation, strawbales, repurposed materials such as cellulose (recycled newspaper) for insulation and lime based plasters for healthy high performance homes.

We recently designed and built a music studio with Straw-Structural Insulated Panels (S-SIPS), which have many advantages, including being a high performance building assembly, a low carbon footprint and leads to an accelerated speed of site work, which we look forward to doing more of these builds.

We currently have projects under construction and in the design phase where we are based in the Western Catskills of New York.

These projects include two new construction projects which will be built using strawbale construction and lime plaster.

To date we have designed and completed new construction projects throughout Massachusetts, and in Maine and Western New York. Custom kitchens and furniture for residences in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.

With an informed and conscientious approach to design, using natural and local materials and an appreciation for traditional building methods and building science, our goal is to craft energy efficient and resilient dwellings and timeless spaces. In addition offering heirloom quality furnishings, while utilizing an ethos in sustainable design for the health of the planet, the builders and the people we are crafting and creating spaces with, and ultimately for.
